Have you been in touch with the Carlisle grandchildren? They are gathering information on
their grandfather for an article (I think). I am from Oxford Ohio, but married to a
"Clifton-ite". My husband's grandmother sang for the Cinti symphony and his
grandfather was a concert promoter in the city. They were good friend's with Emil
Heermann, who was the concertmaster of the symphony for about 50 years. Supposedly,
Carlisle made my violin for Emil. No proof of that without Carlisle's records. That
is why I started this thread; I am looking for his paper records. Although we are from
Ohio, we have lived in Florida for 25 years, and my violin found me, I did not find it. I
bought it 4 years ago from the choir director at the church where our band reherses. At
the time I bought it, I had NO idea that Emil Heerman and hubby's grandparents had
been friends. My mother in law filled me on on this story about a year after I bought it.
My violin is smallish. It has a very s!
lender neck (I would estimate 25% smaller in diameter) and it is just short of full
length. It has a bright tone, and not huge projection, but nice, which is good since I
have only been playing for 6 years (I took up playing in my 40's. Crazy, isn't
it?) It is gold colored with a two piece back. The back wood is spectacular. It is
almost blinding in the sunlight. Mine is #1097 made in 1940. If you are a professional
and you are from Cinti, do you know Paul Patterson? He is one of my brother-in-law's
best friends.
