I have been looking for John Layton Carlisle history for years. The
first record I have of him is in 1865 when he married Martha Bryant in
Scotts County, Illinois. He listed, in later census, that he was from
NC and TN. Any hints would be appreciated. Sue

Any idea where John Carlisle was born? Our family has several similar
names in different generations. In fact my GGgrandfather was Samuel
Carlisle however his family settled in Hillsdale, Michigan.
His grand father's name was Jonathan Carlisle. Samuel also had a brother
George and a son Charles. His brother Ebenezer had a son Floyd (both
buried in Antrim county Michigan) and he also had a nephew also named
Samuel J. Calisle (son of Jabish Carlisle and Minerva Pixley) born 1850
and lived in Branch County.
I'll look into it more when I have the other computer running.
