James Carlisle, b. in PA, married Jane (Jean?), who was from NC. James
was in Knox Co., TN by 1798 when he witnessed the marriage of dau.
Elizabeth to Richard Searcy. He was in what became Rutherford Co., TN by
10 Aug., 1803 when he and his son William W. Carlisle and a Joseph
Carlisle signed the petition to form that county. Known children are:
Elizabeth, b. 1774, married 1st Richard Searcy, 2nd David Crawford;
William W. Carlisle, b. 1784, married Jane McCoy; Sarah, b. 1787,
married James Bulla in Rutherford Co., TN, 1805. One other son was born
to this family, but died a young boy, a victim of a rattlesnake bite.
William W. Carlisle settled in what became Coffee Co., TN and came to TN
from PA, where he was probably born. I descend through William W.
Carlisle's son Robert Bishop Carlisle, b. 1813, who married Mary E.
Templeton.
