There were CARLISLEs in Licking Co., Ohio--just to the east of Franklin
Co.--who migrated there from Sussex Co., Delaware. At least one family did:
John CARLISLE one of my paternal 1st cousins 5 times removed
b 19 Dec 1792, Sussex, DE
mar Elizabeth SMITH (b 15 Sep 1794, Frederick Co., VA)
on 20 Jun 1815, Muskingum Co., OH
children born in Hanover, Licking, OH
John died in Nebraska abt 10 Nov 1878
A 2nd gr-grand aunt, Sarah-Sally CARLISLE, died in Quincy, Logan Co., OH as
well as her husband, Manlove CHAMBERS.
There may be others in my database, also starting out in the Chesapeake
Bay Region.
Remember that Ohio was a place for Revolutionary War veterans and/or
their widowed families to receive recompense for having participated in the
War. Land was given to many there. I don't know the reasons why so many of
them left for what must have seemed greener pastures. It seems, within my
research parameters, that many left after being there a generation or two,
max. Someone with more memories of what he or she studied about Ohio
history could set us straight on this.
My point is that there definitely *were* CARLISLEs in Ohio at this time.
I don't show the names you gave, but they could have been
relatives--especially since *all* CARLISLEs are related, one way or another,
no matter how it's spelled.

Message Board Post:
My husband has recently found a branch of the Carlisle family that
emigrated to the USA from England.
Abraham Carlisle (b: 13 May 1821 d: 12 Sep 1885) was born in Lancashire,
England and arrived in the USA sometime between 1840 and 1850. He settled
in Columbus, Franklin, Ohio and lived there until his death. He started
life in Columbus as a carpenter and ended up being a sucessful lumber
merchant.
He married Anna Higgins and had four children, Mary Carlisle (b: 1844),
William Carlisle (b: 14 Feb 1849), Sarah Carlisle (b: 18 Dec 1850) and
Alice Carlisle (b: 26 Jan 1857). (I am not sure but Mary and William may
have been from a previous marriage).
I believe Alice married a Wallis G Bowland and Sarah married a Mr Corner.
I have no idea of the dates of these events and I do not know Mr Corner's
first name.
Does anyone have any information on this family? My husband is
particularly interested in the reason why Abraham settled in Columbus.
Did he have relatives who had already emigrated there?
Any help would be appreciated.
