Thanks,Jerry!
Your Joseph was a brother of Benjamin Sims Carlisle who is the only one of the children to
stay behind in NC, when the rest moved to Alabama. You can find him in the book, pages 599
and 600 and you can find me on page 731. The little girl is my granddaughter.
I have a comment to make. There isn't a single deed where John is listed as John G. I
have seen this middle initial though on several trees.
We think John might have come to Bladen Co., NC (part of Bladen became Columbus and
Brunswick Co in 1808) from Edgecombe County, NC. Many families migrated from there to
Brunswick and Bladen Co. There is a Robert Carlisle md to Nancy Bell in Edgecombe Co., NC
in whose will a John is mentioned (received 5 shillings).
It is quite possible that our John was a son of this couple. John Carlisle and Nancy Sims
named their first-born son Robert and the time frame fits too. But this is speculation!
Have no evidence of who the parents are of Robert Carlisle md. Nancy Bell. Robert
Carlisle died between 1808 and 1815 and his wife Nancy Bell after 1815. There is
speculation that William and wife Sarah are the parents.
Here is a copy of the will of Robert Carlisle married to Nancy Bell:
ROBERT CARLILE. Book E, page 81, Edgecombe County, N.C. Dated September 27, 1808, probated
February Court, 1815, Wife and executrix, Nancy, given plantation, stock and house during
life or widowhood. Daughter Rebecca Jackson, 5 shillings; daughter Liddy Carlile, 5 pounds
currency; daughter Nancy Riley; son JOHN; daughter Polly Bellflower; daughter Edeah Sealf;
son Clark; son Robert, 5 shillings each, Son Joseph, reversion in half of the land; son
Cary, reversion in remaining part of land. Wife's daughter, feather bed and furniture.
Executor, James Simmons; Witnesses, James Hogan, and James Downing.
