The names you mentioned are likely to be my family. If so, James did not go anywhere but
is buried behind Clover Creek Presbyterian chapel 7 miles South of McDowell in Highland
County, Virginia. Some confusion exists due to shifting boundaries: the Carliles never
moved but county lines did. Their land was originally in Augusta County, then Bath County
and finally Highland County. James' headstone reads, "Revolutionary War Soldier
- died 1802" James was badly wounded at Guilford Court House and was carried home by
brothers Robert & John. Start at Augusta County Will Book #1, page 3.
