Jewell, I was struck by the names in your e-mail. My g-g-grandfather was
David Nathaniel Carlisle, born 1803 (later Carlile). David's brothers were
Alexander, Jehu(John) and ?. I do not know if he had sisters. His father was
either Alexander or David (I have copies of land grants given to Alexander
and David Nathaniel (Jr. or Sr.) in 1812 in SC. David b.1803 named his
children John, Alexander,Mary and Robert.Because of other connections
I think they may have been from County Armagh in Ireland. Do we have
any connections.
Fred Carlile (Carlisle)

Hi Carlisle List Members,
I haven't corresponded with you for awhile, although I do read the Carlisle
mail.
I'm Jewell Chapman. I was born in Roane County, Harriman, TN. I've lived in
Huntington Beach, Orange County, CA since 1974.
I only have one Carlisle name in my database. It is Margaret Carlisle who
married
John Humphrey. They were my 6th great grandparents.
In a book entitled "The Humphreys Family in America" by Frederick
Humphreys, M.C. printed in New York in 1883 is a chapter on the County Armagh
family of Humphreys and his wife Margaret Carlisle. They were Scottish
Presbyterians and claimed descent from Philip Humphreys who was martyred by
Queen Mary of England for his faith. John and Margaret's children were David
Carlisle, John, William, Dr. Alexander, Nathaniel, Mary, John II, and Robert.
Are any of you related to this Carlisle family? Any information about them
would be appreciated.
Thanks,
Jewell Chapman
