Provos insist they have told all on 'disappeared'
THE Provisional IRA last night insisted in a statement it had supplied all the information
it knew about the so-called "disappeared".
The Provisionals said the recovery of the bodies - including that of Jean McConville,
whose body may have been found last week in a shallow grave near Carlingford - had been
"hampered and protracted" by certain factors.
These included the lapse of time since the killings, changes in leadership within the
Provos and the death of members and former members of the IRA.
Michael McConville, son of Mrs McConville, had called on the IRA to reveal where its
missing victims, abducted and killed during the Troubles, are buried.
Tests are still being carried out to establish if the body found at Shilling Hill beach
near Carlingford, Co Louth is that of his mother.
The Provisional IRA in response insisted it knew no more about any such cases.
It also denied any involvement in the recent disappearance of Gareth O'Connor (24)
from Armagh. Nine people are believed to have been "disappeared" by the IRA.
Until last week, there had been no sign of the bodies of Mrs McConville or the five other
persons whose bodies have still not been located.
