Atalissa, Iowa: Francis ''Perky'' Carlisle, 89, of Atalissa died Monday
August 6, 2001, at his home following an extended illness.
Services are at the Barker Funeral Home in West Liberty. The Rev. Terry Mahnke will
officiate.
Burial will be in the Overman Cemetery, Atalissa.
Memorials may be made to the Atalissa Fire Department.
He was born June 21, 1912, in Atalissa, the son of Alexander and Ruth Savacool Carlisle.
He graduated from Atalissa High School in 1930.
He married Dorthy Chapman in 1933 at Kewanee.
He had lived and farmed in the Atalissa area most of his life and helped seven people
start up farming. He also worked with the road construction of Interstate 80 for five
years.
He was treasurer and a trustee of the Atalissa Presbyterian Church, a former school board
member and an Atalissa volunteer fireman for 34 years, serving as chief for five years. He
traveled most of the United States and spent much of his time fishing with family and
friends.
Survivors include his wife, Dorthy Carlisle, Davenport; a daughter; Linda Grunder,
Davenport; a daughter-in-law, Sylvia Seymour, Davenport; a sister, Mable Whyte, Davenport;
grandchildren, Nancy Prins, Durant, Lucie Strom-Bavers, Levering, Michigan, Lynne Kirkman,
Wilton, Valerie Volquardsen, Miles, Kathy Carlisle-Kephart, Wilton, Beth Grunder,
Davenport and Michael Grunder, Moscow; eight great- grandchildren and numerous nieces and
nephews also survive. During his illness he had three care givers, Kathy Hundoble, Cindy
Schmidt and Heather Hundoble.
He was preceded in death by his parents; a son, Jerry Carlisle; two brothers, Thomas
''Bud'' Carlisle and Cecil Carlisle
