Jason Carlisle married three times; first, July 23, 1826, Permelia Ann
Elizabeth Stubbs, born in 1808, Marlboro County,SC., died in 1853, near
Orion, Ala.; buried in China Grove, Ala. His second wife was Matilda
Emeline Rogers, whom he married Dec 29, 1853. He married Catherine
Fortune Jan 26, 1860. Born Catherine Allen in 1823 as a young woman she
had married Joshua Fortune who was the first person to be buried in the
Baptist Cemetery at Spring Hill, Pike County, Ala. He was born Jan 12,
1820, and died Aug 8, 1859. Her second husband was Jason Carlisle.
Although Catherine never had children of her own, she was a devoted
mother to Jason's small children, Mutie and Bennie. Her third husband
was Billie Massey of Argo, Ala. After his death about 1901, she returned
to Trussville, to live with Jason Carlisle's relatives, and was
affectionately known as "Grandma Massey." She died July 27, 1910. Her
grave is by the side of that of Jason Carlisle, her second husband, in
the Cahaba Baptist Church Cemetery.

They moved to Alabama in 1832. Their names appear on an early membership
roll of the Cahaba Baptist Church, Trussville, Ala.

8. Joel Carlisle (son of Richard 1), born in Marlboro County, SC. Dec 8,
1812;d 1887; md. Nancy Ann Covington in 1829. She was born in 1800 in
South Carolina, and died in 1876. They migrated to Alabama in 1832,
settling in Ruhama Valley in what is now the East Lake section of
Birmingham. They were received into Ruhama Baptist church by letter in
May, 1832. Joel and his wife are buried in Cahaba Baptist Church
Cemetery, Trussville, Ala.
