It seems that too little information has been made known about our THOMAS Carlisle---. It's time THOMAS is put into the confusing mix of Carlisle ancestors and their descendants.
In the 1790 MOORE CO., NC Census, THOMAS Carlisle and HOSAH(sic) Carlisle are listed one space from each other, each with
1 male under 16, 1 male over 16 and 1 female in the household.
---- A ROBERT Carlisle with 1 male over 16; 2 males under 16; and 4 females, is below, next to HOSAH(sic). ---- Another ROBERT Carlisle, listed 12 lines below the first ROBERT, has 1 male over 16; 1 male under 16; and 6 females in his household.
Note: ROBERT Carlisle, born 1734 (m. Sarah Coleman) - died 1787, so who are these ROBERTs?
ROBERT, HOSEA and THOMAS, living that closely together, may indicate a brotherly relationship??
***********
No Marriage Record for THOMAS Carlisle has been found. The young male, under 16, listed with THOMAS in 1790, Moore Co., NC, may have been an error. The 1800 CHATHAM CO., NC Census for THOMAS and family lists a *daughter as the oldest child:
1800 Census, HILLSBORO, CHATHAM CO., NC:
CARLISLE, THOMAS: 3 males under 10
(John B., James, Benjamin, (b. 1790 - 1800);
1 male, 26-44 (THOMAS, b 1756 - 1774)
1 female under 10 (Frances, b. 1790 - 1800);
*1 female, 10-15 (Susannah, b. 1785-1790);
1 female, 26-44 (wife/mother, b. 1756 - 1774)
After 1800, THOMAS Carlisle and his family moved into Georgia. With no 1810 GA Census, records of the time THOMAS and his family spent in Georgia are sketchy. His oldest daughter, Susannah Carlisle, married George Douglass (of Jones Co., GA) on Jan. 09, 1809 in Hancock Co., GA. Family records indicate that THOMAS' youngest children were born in Georgia. Georgia War Records indicate that THOMAS Carlisle, and maybe his son, JAMES Carlisle, (JAMES would have been 19/20 yrs. old) served in the War of 1812 from Georgia. Church records show that perhaps another of his sons, JOHN Carlisle, was received as a member of Antioch Baptist Church in Morgan Co., GA, on Feb. 07, 1816 and he was dismissed in 1818. Later, after moving to Lawrence Co., MS, John's membership in Bethany Baptist Church was tabled, pending receipt of confirmation from a church in GA. Sons, JOHN B. and JAMES Carlisle, were also married in GA, but Marriage Records for them have never been found. Census Record!
s indicate the oldest grandchildren of THOMAS Carlisle were born in GA.
THOMAS Carlisle and family moved from GA to Lawrence Co., MS before 1820. The 1820 MS Census lists him as THOMAS Carllile(sp). He also appears in the 1830, 1840 MS Census and the 1841 MS State Census. THOMAS died March 09, 1849 in Lawrence Co., MS. His wife died after the 1841 MS State Census and before THOMAS made his Will on Jan. 22, 1849. Census Records are consistent in indicating that THOMAS was married and he and his wife were approximately the same age. Some believe that it is our THOMAS Carlisle who married Polly McKinney on Jan. 05, 1825 in Lincoln Co., GA. It doesn't seem likely that THOMAS would have traveled back to GA from Lawrence Co., MS in 1825.
THOMAS' Will, probated in April - June, 1849, Lawrence Co., MS, requests that he be buried in the Silver Creek Churchyard, Lawrence Co., MS, and names his heirs:
SUSANNAH Carlisle, b. ca. 1789 NC (m. George Douglass)
JOHN B.Carlisle, b. 1793 NC (m. Elizabeth _?_). JOHN B. was named executor.

REF: familysearch.com - yDNA Research - Carlisle
The yDNA Testing and Research, Group B (R1b), Haplogroup R-L48, indicates that the above named Carlisle men are closely related. How are they related? What is their connection?
Our tie to the Carlisle Family Tree yDNA Research is Test #99386, Group B (Rlb), Haplogroup R-L48, which indicates *WILLIAM Hastings Carlisle, b 1818, as the ancestor, the last and youngest of the ancestors listed above. Test #99386 could have, maybe should have, indicated THOMAS Carlisle, born ca. 1770/74 NC - died March 09, 1849, Lawrence Co., MS, as the ancestor of record. THOMAS is our Carlisle Family's oldest proven ancestor.
This is the direct ancestral linage of *WILLIAM Hastings Carlisle:
