Do you have any information on the names of the parents of Samuel and where your Carlisle family originated. My Carlisles seem to have scattered all over the country. You can see what I have managed to find on my webpage:

This does not help you any, but just a really strange note. I have a great
grandfather, John Layton Carlisle, whom I have been unable to trace. What
struck me was the name Latham. I have always suspected that his middle name
was a family name, perhaps of his mother and the Layton and Latham could
have been an easy spelling mistake in the early/mid 1800's. Just a thought.

Message Board Post:
Still looking for information on my great grandfather John CARLISLE. I had reason to believe he was from Sussex Co., DE and had posted that information before. However recently while going through old papers with my mother we came across his obit.
We were very happy at first but this obit has raised several questions. In the obit it states that he was a native of Succasunna NJ which cleared up the DE belief. We now know that he died in Hunterdon Medical Center and it states that the funeral was held at the O.B. Smith Funeral Home in Dover NJ. I contacted O.B. Smith which is still in opperation but they have no record of him. It also says that he had living sister's one was a Mrs. Lewis P. MORGAN and the other we are trying to make out. There were 3 MORGANS that showed up at his X wifes funeral in 1964, a Della, Edward and Edmond MORGAN but no Lewis. I have tried to trace these MORGANS with no luck. We had thought that Della may have been Johns sister and that Lewis did not attend the service or was already dead.
The following parts of the obit are what cause confusion. To start with the obit was cut out of the paper and does not list the day month or year of death in the obit it's self. The obit gives his age as 70 at his death. My mother says she is almost positive that I was about 1 or 1 and a half years old when John died. That would put his death year at either 1958 or 1959 which would put his birth year at 1888 or 1889. However he is listed in the 1910 Census of High Bridge, Hunterdon County, NJ with his wife and children as a white male 28 years old which puts his birth year at 1882. This creates a differance of 6 or 7 years in the birth years.
The obit states that he spent most of his years in Bartly NJ yet in the 1910 Census he is in High Bridge NJ in the same home he still owned at his death. We have pictures of a farm house behind a pond and a little bridge (part of the driveway?) with the name MILL POND - BARTLEY written on it. This same house is in several other pic's that we have containing many unidentafiable people.
Next confusion is that it say's that he spent 3 years in Germany in the Army of Occupation and then states that he served in the Mexican War which is impossiable. Could they have meant that his father served in the Mexican War?
We also came upon a studio type photo of a man and on the back is written either "J" or "G" Carlisle. We are sure that this is not a picture of John T. since we have pictures of John. Due to the style of clothing the man is wearing it may be his father.
I have checked with cemetery's in the Dover and Succasunna areas of NJ with no luck. John was a moulder and worked for the Taylor Wharton plant. He may have been of the Methodist religion as his boy's, Vernon J. and Kenneth R. attended the Methodist Church in Cokesbury NJ. I believe he may have been married in either the High Bridge, Cokesbury or Mountainville areas. His wife, Elizabeth M. LAMBERT A.K.A. "Lizzy or Jay" was born in Mountainville. She is burried in Mountain View Cemetery in Cokesbury with her second husband Gerry VanERK.
Any information at all on John or his parents would be greatly welcomed.
TIA Dawn
