The "Carlins in Tennessee" webpage, with
additional information about Capt. William Bernard
Carlen of Shay's Battalion, who was part of the
team that accompanied President Jefferson Davis
for the last weeks before President Davis' capture,
and who refused throughout his lifetime ever to take
the Oath of Allegiance to the United States:

These pages reflect continuing research into the Daniel
Carlin family by Don Tadlock of Atlanta, and verified
new information about Capt. William Bernard Carlen of
Tennessee, provided by Bill Morrow of Houston. The
State of Tennessee considers Capt. Carlen to have been
a genuine hero of the Tennessee forces during what is
called either the Civil War or, depending on your viewpoint,
the War of Northern Aggression or the War of the Southern
Rebellion.
