Ken Carlin, of Portland, OR, is looking for information about his paternal
grandfather, James Alvin Carlin, who lived in Bakersfield, Kern County, CA in
1910, and was m. to Anna Henney. They had two children, Thomas Carlin and
George Carlin.
Can anyone help him? In addition to inf. about his grandfather, he'd also
welcome advice on how to approach his research. I've answered his email note,
but I'm sure he'd welcome additional ideas.
Thanks, all...
Fred

Dear Fred
Do you have a few moments to give a few tips for a beginner?
For a few years now I have been stuck in finding my paternal
Grandfathers birthplace and parents let alone where he is buried. I am
trying to find out my families roots to no avail.
What I have found: James Alvin Carlin is reported in the 1910 census in
California in Kern County, Bakersfield. He is married to Anna Henney
with two children Thomas and George (my father) Carlin. James is
recorded to have come from Nebraska. I scoured the Nebraska census in
the previous censuses to no avail. In the 1910 census he is listed as a
fireman for the Southern Pacific Railroad. Since Union Pacific bought
out Southern Pacific they have destroyed all payroll records.
I am at a loss how to proceed. I was going to try to look at all the
cemetaries in Bakerfield to see if he is buried there and if there
contains any identifying info.
What would you do?
