Frankie (Carlin) Meyer, a seventh-generation descendant of John Champ Carlin,
was officially admitted today (May 11, 1999) to membership in the Daughters of
the American Revolution.
John Champ Carlin, who emigrated to the U.S. from Ireland in 1774, appears to be
the first Carlin, of any Carlin family line, to join the cause of American
independence. He joined the 7th Virginia Regiment on March 18, 1776.
The highest-ranking Carlin during the American Revolution appears to be Daniel
Carlin, who was a captain in the Henry County (Virginia) Militia. Daniel also
emigrated to the U.S. in 1774 (although later than John Champ Carlin), and
joined the militia on April 20, 1778.
Thanks to research by Frankie (Carlin) Meyer, and Jim and Liz Carlin, and
others, we now know that there are at least 10 Carlins (from different Carlin
family lines, including the Carlen line) who served during the Revolutionary
War.
There's a complete list of all Carlins who served in the Revolutionary War at
