I'm interested in information about Hugh Carlin, an early Texan. He first
arrived in Texas in July 1839, in Shelby County, and was awarded a land grant of
640 acres. This was a Class 3 land grant, and a 640-acre grant in that year
indicated that the recipient was married.
Hugh Carlin received this land grant in Shelby County from the then-Republic of
Texas, and he still held that land after Texas became a state. (Texas was
admitted as the 28th state by President James K. Polk on Dec. 29, 1845.)
I'd welcome information about Hugh Carlin and about his descendants. Thank you.
