Actually, the book series has geographical areas far afield from New
England --- try Houston, Texas. In fact, you'll find almost every state in
the Union and some foreign countries in addition to Ireland.
"The Search For Missing Friends. Irish Immigrant Advertisements Placed in
the Boston Pilot" is in hard-copy series from Vol. 1 (1831-1850) through
Vol. 8 (1877-1920). Published by the New England Historic Genealogical
Society from 1989 - 1999 with several editors. Most good genealogical
collections will include this series, which will be found in the
Massachusetts section (where the "Boston Pilot" was published).
The advertisements were placed by people looking for relatives and friends,
and for the Irish, the "Boston Pilot" was *THE* immigrant newspaper. Often
the ads were placed by family in the old country who had not heard from the
son or other family member who had come to America and had not been heard
from. And many were placed by people here looking for those who had arrived
but 'missing.'
In the site address given, enter the name of John Carlin and this is what

** on the third reference, it is for John CURLIN. There are variants of
spelling. And in the books there are a couple of other John Carlin names.
Important to check the books if you find a listing on the website. Often you
will find some really great genealogical information.
