Two Carlin Eccentrics!

Every family has its eccentrics,
and our families have them, too!
You might enjoy taking a look at our
newly-updated "Carlin Eccentrics" webpage.
The URL is
http://www.CarlinArchives.com/carlin-eccentrics.htm .
You'll read about BEN CARLIN who, in the 1950's,
sailed around the world, with his wife, in a Jeep!
Yes, a Jeep! And his book about the experience,
"Half Safe," made him rather well-known in that era.
Had this been done today, Ben would have sold even
more copies of his book through appearances on "The
Tonight Show with Jay Leno," on "Late Night," on
"Nightline," and even on "Oprah." And he could have
retired for life from the income earned by endorsing
Jeep vehicles!
Jeep: The one car to think about
when you're sailing around the world.

You'll also enjoy some laughs, and perhaps some
tears, reading about ERNEST CARLIN, who owned the
115,000-acre "King Carlin's Ranche" in Menard
County, Texas. He enjoyed life as one of Texas'
leading wool producers. He lived on the ranch
with his mistress... until his wife showed up! The
mistress left very quickly!
At age 53, Ernest fell in love with a 22-year-old singer,
and, well, the story gets even worse. Without
question, Ernest was a full-fledged eccentric!
The story of Ben Carlin comes to us through John B. Carlin, Ph.D. of
Melbourne. John is one of two Carlins who are published experts on
Bayesian statistics and data analysis. He is a Professor of
Biostatistics at the University of Melbourne's Dept. of Paediatrics
and Deputy Head of Clinical Epidemiology and Biostatistics at
Melbourne's world-famous Royal Children's Hospital Research Institute.
The article about Texas's Ernest "King" Carlin comes from Warren A.
Wolff, M.S.E.E., of San Bernardino, CA. Warren, a descendant of James
Carlin (b. 1728), is a retired major in the U. S. Air Force, where he
was involved in anti-missile intelligence. He teaches math and science
at Eisenhower H.S. in Rialto, CA, and directs the Wolff Tennis Clinic.
