Virginia Simms Toney, a Carlin descendant, has been elected national
correponding secretary of the Descendants of Mexican War Veterans.
Ginny is a fourth-generation descendant of John Carlin, who was a
first sergeant in the Mexican American War and later was a captain
in the Union Army, commanding the somewhat famous (at that time)
"Captain Carlin's Battery" of artillery.
You'll find more about this, and an update of Carlins from all family lines
who served in the Mexican War, at The Carlin Archives Online,

Please be sure to let me know if you know of other Carlins who served
in the U.S. Armed Forces during wartime, so that we may list their
name(s) on the appropriate webpage. As always, we include Carlins
from all Carlin family lines.
I should note that I'm desperately in need for information about any
Carlin, from any family line, who served during the Spanish American
War (1898); I've been unable to find any Carlins who served in that war.
Thank you.
