We know that there were Carlins in the early history of Illinois: Thomas
Carlin was that state's sixth governor, serving from 1838-1842, and
Carlinville, IL, is named in Governor Carlin's honor.
And, of course, Maj. Gen. William P. Carlin, U.S.A., was involved in the
early history of Nevada; the City of Carlin, NV, is named in his honor.
But data at The Carlin Archives indicate that Carlins were involved in the
early history of 33 of our states (plus the District of Columbia)!
There's no Carlin involved in early Hawaii, but we do have a Carlin involved
in the early history of Alaska.
There are no Carlins involved in the early history of North Carolina or
North Dakota, but we do have Carlins involved in the early history of both
South Carolina and South Dakota, and at one point in the late 1800's or very
early 1900's, there appears to have been a small town named Carlin, SD.
There were Carlins involved in Texas before statehood -- when Texas was the
Republic of Texas. And there were Carlins involved in very early
California.
There was a Carlin in the early history of Washington, DC, and there were
Carlins in the early history of Washington State.
We've had Carlins in the early history of New England states, Southern
states, Southwestern states, Midwestern states, Mountain states.
It's taken some time, and more than a little bit of research, but we've
compiled the names of those Carlins involved in the early history of 33
different states (plus the District of Columbia).
If you're interested in any of this information, go to the Carlins Today
page at The Carlin Archives Online. The URL is
http://www.attorney.carlin.net/carlin-CarlinsToday.htm.
The page itself needs to be fixed a bit. I hate the background color (which
I mistakenly picked myself, so if you want to blame someone, blame me). And
three flags (for the UK, Canada and Australia) don't appear (for Carlins in
the UK, Canada and Australia), while the flag for New Zealand does appear,
and I've been unable to fix this just yet. Okay, okay; I'm not perfect.
But the links all work... and the page has direct links to Carlins in four
countries (UK, Canada, Australia, New Zealand) and to Carlins in the early
history of 33 states and Washington, DC.
Plus there's a great link to the Carlin Eccentrics page. Every family has
its eccentrics; two from the Carlin families are listed on this page.
As always, I'd love to receive any corrections or additions. Thank you.
