Virginia Simms Toney, a descendant of Capt. John Carlin of Mexican War and
Civil War fame, has just been elected national corresponding secretary of
the Descendants of Mexican War Veterans.
Our Mexican War webpage is at
http://www.attorney.carlin.net/carlin-w-mexican.htm, and our Civil War
webpage is at
http://www.attorney.carlin.net/carlin-w-civil.htm.

Ginny Toney, of Houston, and Peggy McGill Carlin, of Dallas, have both
advised me that the genealogical database at
www.ancestry.com is free for
the next few days. You might want to take advantage of this for some of your
own research.

Through the help of Peggy McGill Carlin, we've now been able to create a
webpage honoring those Carlins, from among all family lines, who were
awarded the Purple Heart.
This includes Carlins who served in the U.S. Army, the U.S. Army Air Corps
(which, of course, ultimately became the U.S. Air Force), the U.S. Navy and
the U.S. Marine Corps.
The URL is
http://www.attorney.carlin.net/purpleheart.htm.
The page still needs some work; the graphics don't show, for reasons that
make no sense, so you won't be able to see a copy of the Purple Heart medal.
But the data are all accurate, thanks to Peggy.
