We've been doing some research at The Carlin Archives Online about Carlins
in Canada, and trying to update the information we've published on the web.
It now appears that the first Carlins in Canada were Catherine Connor and
Dennis Carlin, who emigrated from County Cork to Brockville, Ontario, in
1830. They subsequently moved to Syracuse, NY, then returned to Brockville,
and later generations lived in Montana, Minnesota and South Dakota. We have
only two generations for this family: Catherine and Dennis, and their
children. If you have knowledge of this family, or of their descendants in
Montana, Minnesota and South Dakota, please let me know.
The second Carlin family in Canada was that of Mary Dougherty and James
Carlin, nee Carolan, who emigrated from Ireland to Canada in 1836, and
settled in Grenville, Quebec. They brought their two children with them:
Terrence, b. 1832 in Ireland, and Catherine, b. 1834 in Ireland. After
settling in Grenville, they had seven more children, and we have good
information about some of their descendants.
