There are three Carlin Archives webpages related to the late James L.
"Jim" Merritt (1918 - 1998). All have been revised and updated, with
typos corrected, new page backgrounds and updated but still low-keyed
graphics. (NO animated graphics!)
Jim Merritt's basic biographical information, one
of our 12 bio pages currently being updated, is at
http://www.attorney.carlin.net/bios/JamesLMerritt.htm
We also have a 1996 interview of the late Mr. Merritt, conducted by
his grandson, dealing with Mr. Merritt's experiences during World War
II. He had been a Technical Sergeant with the U.S. Army. This
interview deals with Mr. Merritt's military experiences from 1942, in
French Algeria and Morocco, to 1945, in central Germany. The
applicable URL is
http://www.attorney.carlin.net/bios/JamesLMerritt_interview.htm
TSgt. Jim Merritt, and his son, Gordon Merritt, are descendants of
Daniel Carlin (1750-1820), the American patriot. Daniel Carlin had
been a captain in the Henry Co. (Virginia) Militia during the
Revolutionary War, and later served as a member of Virginia's
Commission on the Peace. we have the Daniel Carlin The Daniel Carlin
biographical page, one of the bio pages that's just been updated and
revised, is at
http://www.attorney.carlin.net/bios/DanielCarlin1774.htm
Daniel Carlin was "one of the most interesting men of the period,"
according to John Perry Alderman, in the book "Carroll 1765 - 1815:
The Settlements" (Virginia, Central Virginia Newspapers, Inc., 1985).
An excerpt from Mr. Alderman's book can be found on The Carlin
Archives at
http://www.attorney.carlin.net/bios/DanielCarlin1774_bookexcerpt.htm
The excerpt, of course, is published at the Carlin website with
permission.
In terms of updating pages and graphics, my concentration has been on
the biographical pages. (The "bios" category comes before "documents"
and before "septs" and before "states" and before "ref," so
it's going
to be a while before I'm through with this updating!) Of necessity,
however, I do update genealogical and sometimes state pages when
they're specifically referred to by a biographical page.
In other words, because I've updated the two James L. Merritt pages,
and the two Daniel Carlin pages, I did a bit of updating on the basic
Daniel Carlin Family genealogical page, which is located at
http://www.attorney.carlin.net/septs/danielcarlin1774.htm
As you can see, all biographical pages are now grouped under the
category "...carlin.net/bios/" and all family genealogy pages are
listed under "...carlin.net/septs/". If you have any trouble getting
to the pages you're looking for, just send a note to
helpdesk(a)carlin.org.uk . Either I or another volunteer will get back
to you with the correct URL.
With best wishes,
