For the sake of organization, logic and my own sanity (!),
I've put all Carlin Archives biography pages into one
category, called, not illogically, "bios."
All biographical pages have been updated in terms of
modernized graphics, new page backgrounds, updated
links, new typography. Where there's new substantive
information, it's been added.
The two best examples of this are the brand new
biographical webpages for
__________Capt. James Cornelius Carlin,
a captain in the Confederate Navy and later the superintending
captain of the South Carolina Import and Export Co.,
SC's state-controlled blockade-running organization,
and for
__________Capt. Charles R. Carlin,
a rating in the Confederate Navy who later organized and
commanded the Jupiter, FL, Life Boat Service, now part of
the U.S. Coast Guard. Carlin Park, in Jupiter, FL, is named
in honor of Capt. Carlin.

_____ _____ _____
Capt. James Cornelius Carlin and Capt. Charles R. Carlin
are both descendants of the James Carlin - Susan Melles
family of England. The Carlin/Melles family has had a
nautical and maritime background for at least five generations,
both in England, the U.S., and elsewhere.
The new webpage for this family, which reflects the new design
for our family genealogy pages, is located at
http://www.attorney.carlin.net/septs/carlin_melles.htm
_____ _____ _____
Eventually, all of our webpages will reflect the concepts set forth
on the above pages. The special "maritime/nautical background"
used on these particular pages, however, won't be used for other
family lines unless they have a specific nautical tradition. But all
Carlin, Carlon and Carlan webpages will have an appropriate
special background. The idea, of course, is to keep things
interesting and lively.
Who ever said that genealogy is sometimes dull?
Not true!
