Does anyone out there know anything of the three Carlins who appear as
follows:
South Carolina Department of Archives and History, Columbia S.C.
General Assembly Petitions - Reference ND - 5203 -01
"The petition of leading citizens of Pickens County (S.C.)
asking (the honourable Legislature of the State of South Carolina)
for an additional magistrate in the district."
signed by some 32 citizens including
Jere Carlin
A Carlin
James Carlin
Any one know these characters?
A J. P. Jenkins is also among the other names.
Note:
All three signatures are very similar and could
have been written by the same hand. The tail of the "a"s are quite high
so that name could just be Corlin but judging from other "o"s
looks as though they are probably Carlin.
The writing is similar to, but not the same as, that of the Captain James
Carlin who was a
Pilot with the Confederates States Navy at the beginning of the Civil War
and who later became a blockade runner.
No date given for this petition probably between 1850/60 judging from other
documents received from this source.
