William P. Carlin was the first Carlin to graduate from West Point. He was
no. 20 of the 44 graduates of West Point's class of 1850.
The most recent Carlin to graduate from one of our nations' service
academies is First Lieut. Karen M. Carolan, U.S.A., who graduated with West
Point's class of 1996.
In the 150 years between General William P. Carlin's graduation and today,
there have been 9 Carlins at our service academies: five at West Point, four
at Annapolis.
One of the West Point graduates, Col. Robert A. Carlone, class of 1952,
opted to join the U.S. Air Force, and is now retired as an Air Force
colonel.
One of the Annapolis graduates, Brandon Carlon, class of 1947, opted to join
the U.S. Marine Corps, earned a Silver Star and a Purple Heart in Korea, and
ultimately retired from the Corps as a full colonel.
To acknowledge these nine Carlins, and their service to our country, we now
have a new "Carlins at West Point and Annapolis" webpage. The URL is
http://www.attorney.carlin.net/academy.htm .
We've also updated our Marine Corps, Korean War and Purple Heart webpages,
not just to add Col. Brandon Carlon's name, but to add additional
information about others on those pages, as well as additional names.
