Subject: [Carlile] New Administrator
I've taken on the task of the administrator of the CARLILE-L
Mailing list.
I felt it was time I try to give something back to Rootsweb.
I've
subscribed to many lists over the years and have learned a great deal of
useful information as well as "meeting" distant cousins.
A little bit about my CARLILE roots....
My 3rd Great Grandfather was Richard Carlile b. Dec 8 1790 in Ashburton,
Devonshire, England. Richard was a free thinker and is sometimes referred
to as the "Father of Freedom of the Press" in Great Britain. Several of
Richard's children came to the United States, including his son Richard, my
2nd Great Grandfather, b. March 25, 1814. The younger Richard became a
Member of the House of Representatives in Milwaukee Wisconsin about 1853.
He died in 1854 leaving behind 2 daughters, Ellen and Frances.
