Barbara,
I don't know where Alexander came from but Mary was born in Williamsburg
Co., SC. Marys gr-father Robert Winter was from N. Ireland and her
gr-mothers family (McCants) were from Newtownards, County Down. Your
Carliles came into Charleston on the "Jane Gray" in 1818 and showed up
next on the 1830 census in Fairfield Co. SC. They did not show up on the
1820 census anywhere. The 1820 census showed Mary Carlile as h-o-h with
eight other people and two of the people were the age of James and Mary
Rhea Carlisle. I have alway wondered if this was a stop off point for
your
Carlisles. Do you any knowlege of when they showed up in Fairfield Co.
SC?
Regards,
Fred Carlile

Fred,
I hope I am not intruding but Laverne Power sent me this Carlisle
information that you provided. She and I are of the same group,
basically. I wanted to ask if you know where in Ireland this
Alexander and Mary came from.
My Carlisles - Adam, Henry several times, Alexander, Thomas McKeon,
John, Mary Ann, and so on came from Ballymena in Country Antrim
Northern Ireland. Maybe we go back to the same family. My
ggrandmother Nancy Carlisle Allen was born in Ballymena in 1811. The
only other thing I know about her was that she married James Allen in
Monroe Co MS in 1845.
The earliest I have is Adam whose declaration to become a citizen in
Norfolk,VA, says he came in 1813 to Norfolk. Some came to Charleston
in 1820 and others to Monroe Co MS via the Gulf Coast ports.
I had wondered who this Mary was.
Thanks and please excuse the intrusion.
Barbara
