For those of you who have been looking for George Carlile's wife's family (He
married Mary M. Parsley about 1879/1880 according to the 1900 Census records), I believe I
finally found Mary Parsley with her Mother, a sister and a brother in KS in 1870. There
was no father listed.
In 1870 Jackson Co., KS Federal Census, Douglas Twp P 17 (272A) DN 123 FN 123 there is
what appears to be a Penope Passley ( I assume this should be Penelope Parsley), Age 32 KY
as head of house, with Mary M. (George's bride to be) Age 10 CA, Margaret Age 8 CA,
and James Age 4 KS. Which would indicate that the Parsley family moved from CA to KS
between 1862 and 1865. Perhaps W. H. Parsley enlisted in the Civil War and was killed, I
haven't researched that at all.
I then found James Parsley (at least I believe it to be him) in the 1880 Atchison Co., KS
Federal Census, Center Twp P 46 (481B) DN 343 FN 427 Age 14 KS (MD/MO?) MO (James
Parseley) Listed as Nephew, and living w/Vincent & Elizabeth Jones family. I believe
that Elizabeth Jones (wife) would be his blood aunt as she has parents born in KY; She is
born in Missouri
I could not find Margaret Parsley in 1880 and believe she was probably married by that
time or had passed away.
George & Mary are, of course, living in Iowa in 1880:
1880 Page Co., IA, Federal Census, Lincoln Twp. P37 (482D)
I also believe I found Penelope Parsley remarried to John H. Monroe in 1880 in Shawnee
Co., KS
1880 Shawnee Co., KS Federal Census, Topeka P41 (54A) DN 368 FN 434 Age 45 KY KY VA
(Penelope Monroe)
One of the reasons I believe this Penelope Monroe to be Mary Parsley's mother is hat
my father always thought there was a Monroe connection, but he couldn't remember what
it was. He thought that maybe Mary M. Parsley's middle name was Monroe, but he
couldn't remember why he thought that was true.
I have not been successful in finding anyone else except James Parsley in 1930 as
follows:
1930 Woods Co., OK Federal Census, Walnut Grove Twp P 3B DN 47 FN 54 Age 64 KS MO KY
Farmer (James Parsley) First Married @ 22
In any event, for those of you who are interested in this family, I would appreciate your
trying to either confirm or refute any or all of the above so that we can maintain an
accurate accounting of this family.
I still have not found a marriage record for Mary Parsley and George Carlile, although I
have been told the marriage took place in Shawnee Co., KS. Does anyone have a
confirmation on it?
I appreciate any help I can get. Thanks
