Well there is definitely a connection between the Kyle family and a Carlisle
family in Guernsey Co., OH. Proving it, may be more difficult, but:
(1) It is not a coincidence that Ellen Carlisle was living with Stephen &
Mary Kyle in 1850, Guernsey Co., OH, and that Priscilla Carlisle was living
with this same family ten years later (1860) in Livingston Co., IL.
(2) Nor is it a coincidence that this same Kyle family was living (1850) in
Guernsy Co., OH as was John and Eliza Carlisle, and that in 1860 these same
two families are living a couple of households apart in Livingston Co., IL.
If I had the time, I could probably prove the connection, but I am getting
ready to go to CA, so cannot spend the time right now.

Thanks. I am currently finishing a book about our Carlisle family
that
starts in 1755 in Mifflin co. Pa. This has taken over two years to compile
from about a dozen relatives, family friends and myself who have reseached
our line for over 70 years and I'm about finished except for the index. I
have an extensive detailed list of all the Carlisles that settled in
Guernsey Co., O ( my father is from there) including the John Carlisle you
write about but no Priscilla shows up. She was found by me and another
relative while reseaching John about a year ago, and their stay in Illinois
before the family moved to Iowa. I can find no link between us and the Kyles
but there seems to have been. John was married in 1846 and he and the former
Eliza Chadwick had 7 children between 1847 and 1868.
She may have been using a middle name or our earlier data only shows a
nickname. She does not fit in anywhere with a birth around that time but
that doesn't mean she was not one of this group. We have several Carlisles
that were lost and could not be tracked also.
The orginal Carlisle children(11 of them) from John Carlisle of Pa. are all
accouted for except the 3 youngest ones, Joseph, George and James, all born
in Pa from 1795 to 1800. They were in care of an Orphan's Court when their
father died in Pa. in 1811. Most of them started by spelling their name
Carlile.

My guess is that the Priscilla Carlisle, listed in the 1860 Livingston Co.,
Illinois FC in Nevada Twp, is from Guernsey Co., OH and that Mary Kyle is
her older sister. I would also venture to say that the John Carlisle (wtih
family) listed just below Priscilla on that same page is a brother of
Priscilla and Mary, and he is definately from Guernsey Co., OH (and listed
in the 1850 census), as is the Kyle family.
If you look in the 1850 census in Guernsey Co., OH, Fairview Twp., you will
find that an Ellen Carlisle, 45, VA, is living with Stephen and Mary Kyle.
I
suspect that Ellen is Mary's mother, and is living with her to assist with
the family while Mary is pregnant with another child. There is a Lowery
Carlisle (46, PA) family, also listed in Guernsey Co., with several
children
and no wife. I suspect Ellen is the missing wife.
There is a female child named Jane in the Lowery Carlisle family who is the
correct age for Priscilla, and I think the odds are pretty good that Jane
and Priscilla are one in the same. If you were to check out all of the
census records on these families, i.e., check in 1860 to see if Ellen and
Lowery are back together, unless one of them died, you may find this family
is Priscilla's family.
You may also want to follow Priscilla's sister, Mary Kyle, who remarried 13
Mar 1866 to a Ransellear Springer in Livingston Co., to see if Priscilla
shows up in the 1870 census. There is a Priscilla Carlisle who married in
Cook Co., IL to a Thomas Vaughn 5 Jan 1887, but that may be a different
person.
