A gentleman on the Cumberland Co., England mailing list was kind enough to
check the marriage record for William Carlile and Sarah Barker for me. He
confirmed there was a record of that marriage but informed me that Sarah
Barker was 39 years of age at the time of the marriage in 1775, which
means Sarah was born about 1736. William was 23, so certainly a possibility
forf my William Carlile, but with the age of 39 for Sarah, it does not seem
likely that this is the William and Sarah couple who were living in Carroll
Co., OH in 1825, as the Scotts cemetery record indicates Sarah Carlile was
62 years of age when she died in 1825; so she would have had to have been
closer to 13 years of age in 1775 than 39.
I think sometimes we are so desperate to find something, we simply
gravitate to the closest thing we can find and plug it into our files.
Does anyone have any additional information on where William and Sarah
Carlile, who lived in Carroll Co., OH came from in Ireland? I have been
unable to find anything at all. My speculation is that they are from
Northern Ireland, perhaps Antrim, Armagh, Cavan, Down, or Monaghan. I
haven't been able to confirm it, but Mariah (Mary) Whitcraft was
purportedly from County Cavan, which I suspect the Carliles were from that
area as well.
