This is in response to suezque2's query early this month.
I have no info in response to the specific query. However, in response to the
general query about Carliles/Carlisles from VA, I would like to call attention
to a particular book. It is "Early Western Augusta Pioneers: including the
families of Cleek, Gwin, Lightner, and Warwick, and related families of
Bratton, Campbell, Carlile, Craig, Crawford, Dyer, Gay, Givens, Graham,
Harper, Henderson, Hull, Keister, Lockridge, McFarland, and Moore," by George
Washington Cleek, 1889-?, reprinted by Clearfield Publishing Company
(subsidiary of Genealogical Publishing Co.), 1995, 1997, 1999. This is a
paperback 6 x 9, over 400 pages.
I do not have a copy but I searched Worldcat on OCLC and located 16 libraries
which have it. The nearest copy is in the Conroe Public Library, about 50
miles north of Houston where I live. I looked at it there last fall. It
contains a large amount of specific information about a good many Carliles who
lived in early VA. None of them seem related to my earliest known ancestor,
Nathaniel Carlile, will probated in Halifax Co., NC in 1812, although some
think he came from VA.
If anyone requests, I will post the list of libraries that have it.
