Fellow Researchers,
I have never posted to this but do know of a Carlisle family in SC. James Carlisle
arrived in Charleston SC on the ship "Jane" about 1820 and declared his
intentions to become a citizen in Fairfield County SC in 1821. This family is on the
manifest found at the National Archives: his wife Mary, his sons John, Alexander, Henry
and Thomas McKeon (twins) and daughter Mary. He had two other sons already in Fairfield
County, William and James. Most of them eventually moved to Monroe County, MS.
My great grandmother, Nancy Carlisle, had four half brothers and one half sister. I
believe they always lived in Monroe County (all born in Ireland) They were John, Henry,
William, Adam (1840 - 1916) and Mary Ann. The above Alexander seems to have been a first
cousin of these people. Adam's death certificate gives his father as Daniel.
The Reverend Coleman Carlisle migrated from PA to SC and his family on to north MS but I
have never been able to connect them. He was a Methodist preacher and I have always been
told my Carlisle family was Presbyterian but I have no proof of that.
Hope this helps someone.
