My 5th great-grandmother was Mary Carley/Carly, born likely in Ireland in Abt. 1803 or
prior. She married James Sands (also likely from Ireland, similar dates). I do not know
their exact dates/places or parentage, and this is specifically what I'm looking for
at this time. Mary Carley/Carly may have migrated to Scotland as her daughter did this,
but she may also have remained in Ireland and ultiamtely died there.
Mary Carley/Carly (b. Abt. 1803 or prior, likely in Ireland) married James Sands (b. Abt.
1803 or prior, likely in Ireland) and had at least the following child:
Mary Sands (b. Abt. 1821 in Ireland; d. 24 May 1874 in Dundee, Scotland). Mary Sands
remained unmarried throughout her life, but had an illegitimate child with William Sands
(same surname, but relationship unknown, if any). Of this union was born a daughter,
Letitia Sands (b. Abt. 1842 in Ireland).
The death certificate of Mary Sands (b. Abt. 1821 in Ireland; d. 24 May 1874 in Dundee,
Scotland), names her parents as James Sands (a Lodge Keeper) and Mary Carley/Carly. Both
were listed as deceased as of 1874 per Mary's death certificate. The informant at Mary
Sands' death was her illegitimate daughter with William Sands, Letitia (Sands)
Duncan.
Any information on Mary (Carley/Carly) Sands (b. Abt. 1803 in Ireland), or even where a
significant concentration of Carley/Carly's were living in Ireland around the year
1800 would be very helpful for me to pursue my search for her and her family of origin.
Thank you!
