Looking for ancestors of William Carley, born abt 1803 in Ireland, possibly in parish of
Larne, Co. Antrim. William emigrated to the U.S. about 1830 then moved to Canada about
1840 where he settled in the Cobourg, Ontario. William married Margaret Parker (b 1810 at
Templepatrick, Antrim, Ireland). I'm not sure if William and Margaret were married in
Ireland or the U.S.. William's first son, Alexander, was born in the US on 12 Mar
1835. His other children, Charles, Caroline and Ann were all born in Ontario between 1844
and 1849.
I believe that William could be the son of Alexander Carley (b abt 1762 d 24 Mar 1813 in
Co. Antrim) but have yet to establish any proof. Alexander's wife was Jane and they
had several children including, Nancy, Margaret, William(died young), Alexander(2), James,
Elizabeth, Jane, Ann and Ellen. Most of the family is buried at St. Cedma, Church of
Ireland Graveyard, Parish of Larne.
The Rev. James Carley (1786 - 1861), son of John Carley, of Kilroot Point, near
Carrickfergus, may be from a connected family.
I'm a descendant of the William Carley of Cobourg Ontario. I'm willing to share
information on my Canadian Carley roots.
