The notation for Bartholomew keeps throwing in the monkey wrench, doesn't it? The
only family that I have been able to trace that has a Bartholomew in it's history is
the White family - so I think we have to accept that any subsequent Kerly/etc line that
has a Bartholomew in it stems from the Capt. Henry and Elizabeth White Kerley line - or
has a lateral reference to that line - ie. a brother acknowledging another brother -- it
is interesting to note that Mariner William and Mary Bowden Carley did not use the Bart
name, nor did son John, or any of his descendants -- nor did Abraham of the Brookins --
Joseph Carley of Hillsdale DID, his went to Canada as a Loyalist - I think Henry, Jr's
descendants DID, his family went South into VA and KY and his VA lines merge or fade into
the Cearleys of NC, etc -- this may turn out to be defining evidence ---- what if the
Cearley lines derived from Carley (William and Mary) while the Kearley lines derived from
Henry, Jr???
That's a new idea for me -- and could explain a lot of confusion in the Southern lines
-- have to explore that ----
