Do you have the history of Elijah? I have an Elijah, b. 1776 at Nobeltown, Columbia, NY,
son of Joseph and Unknown Jellet Carley and who was married to Hannah Snider and after she
died, he married Mary Conger - a quote from another entry in the Carley history cited from
my notes -
"Elijah Carley (Augusta) married Hannnah, daughter of John Snider 22nd December 1797;
22nd December 1797 Hannah Carley--praying for lands as the daughter of a U.. Loyalist.
Ordered 200 acres. Apparently she died after they had a son, John Carley* and as a widower
he married Mary Conger below. I imagine she died in Schnectady but maybe it was in
Elizabethtown (now what we call Brockville) There was another son born-- Elijah Wolsley
who died as an infant and is buried in Prince Edward County. The union of Elijah and Mary
produced one son, William Edward Fletcher Dela Carley and he married an Elizabeth Blakely
daughter of James Blakely who was also a Loyalaist. As far as I know Elijah was born in
Schnectady, New York about 1759 to 1761 and had brothers Bartholomew (as shown above) and
Ezekiel, Ebenezer, Beulah and a sister (do not know her name) and about three others. I
imagine Abraham was one of the three. There is no mention of a John in any records that I
have. Apparently E!
lijah visited Schnectady three times, once to be installed in the Morton Lodge as a
Mason. I have a copy of his certificate. So he could have been married to Hannah Snider
then but likely was a widower. I will check the certificate. He came to Canada with his
older brother Bartholomew.
Elijah Carley, Sophiasburgh
Mary Conger, Hallowell----------January 11, 1819."
The Joseph referred to as father of Elijah, b 1703 Boston, was a brother of my 6ggf, John
Carley b. 1706, and they were sons of William and Mary Bowden Carley - William, b. @ 1683,
the son of Capt. Henry Kerley and second wife Elizabeth Ward, widow of John Howe, II of
Marlborough, MA.
