am researching the CARLEY FAMILY.ROBERT BARTHOLOMEW CARLEY, is the last known relative any
and all additional information on this person will be greatly appreciated.This is what I
have on Robert B. Carley: Born at Brockville, Leeds County, Ontario, Canada, July 14,
1825, UNKOWN PARENTS, but raised by an uncle, a merchant in Brockville. UNKNOWN wifes'
name, but married in New Mexico.Had two children Miguel(1856-1915), my great grandfather 3
times, and another son Antonio, who was killed by Apaches in New Mexico.Robert left home
at age of 17 and went to New York City where he was employed by a steamship company;
landed in New Orleans (1845) and had worked his way to Fort Leavenworth, Kansas, where he
became a government teamster and went to Mexico during the war, 1846-47. Returned to Fort
Leavenworth and traveled from there to Santa Fe, New Mexico; in Santa Fe he accepted a
clerkship in the Quartermaster's Department and later became an Assistant
Quatermaster; in 1852 he was e!
mployed to instruct the Apaches in farming but lost everything he owned in an Indian raid
in 1856 so again became a Quatermaster's Clerk; he acquired another freighting outfit
and hauled goods from the Missouri River to Santa Fe and later to Army posts in New Mexico
and Prescott and Tucson, AZ. Listed in the US Census, July, 1870 at Adamsville on the Gila
River, occupation, teamster; shortly afterwards he became one of the first settlers on the
south side of the Salt River and helped to take out the Tempe Canal; originally claimed
American citizenship by reason of Army service but was regularly naturilized in the US
District Court in Phoenix, December 16, 1876.The Great Flood of 1891 swept away the
buildings on his farm; he sold the place in 1893 and deposited the money in the Bank of
Tempe which failed and left him penniless; he had served as Justice of the Peace of Tempe
precinct in 1874-75 and was again elected to that office in 1896, serving until his
death.He died near!

is Miguel or Mike (Unkown what actual name born with) Bartholomew Carley(his son) born in
1856, New Mexico and died March 11, 1915, Phoenix, AZ, Maricopa County. He married
Lawerencia "Celestina" Yescasa Mendoza, born May 20, 1878, died January 10,
1935, Phoenix, AZ.Robert had a brother that moved to Wisconsin, UNKNOWN LEADS.Any and all
information on Robert B. Carleys' PARENTS and BROTHER would helpful.PLease feel free
