Which Bartholomew are you looking for?
The earliest is said to have been born to Capt. Henry and 1st wife Elizabeth White Kerley
in @ 1660/1 at Lancaster, MA. I'm beginning to have my doubts about that since his
name is almost never repeated in descendant lines and I am thinking that he might have
been a son of the William who came on the Confidence and married H(Anna)h King in 1646.
That William was not of an age to have been a son of William the Immigrant, b. 1602, and
wife Ann White(Turner) who married in 1624, as he appears to have been born in 1621,
according to Court testimony given in 1666 & 7,(a younger brother of the Edmund who
came with him), but a nephew of William the Immigrant and a cousin of Capt.Henry, b. 1632
and William, Jr. b. 1633. The Will of the William of the Confidence, dated 1684, does not
include names of children but mentions his wife as still living and though he leaves
articles of armaments to Capt. Henry and calls him "brother" - the term could be
related to brother-at-arms, as the!
y were both in the Artillery for the Colony, or to note that they were close companions,
and thought of each other as brothers.
Bartholomew is never mentioned as a survivor of the Lancaster Massacre in 1676 while
Henry, Jr and some of his sisters are. The list of slain includes Capt. Henry's wife
Elizabeth (White), Henry and Elizabeth's son William and possibly, son Joseph as well
as a daughter Mary. whose name appears in both lists.
Prior to the Massacre, William of the Confidence and H(Anna)h King had relocated to
Marlborough where Bartholomew married his Hannah in 1686.
Kerley Massacre survivors listed in Mr. H. S.
Nourse's "Early Records of Lancaster" - Henry Kerley, son of Lieut. Henry
(later Capt.), aged 18; Hannah Kerley, dau.of Lieut. Henry, aged 13; Mary Kerley dau of
Lieut. Henry, aged 10; Martha Kerley daug of Lieut. Henry, aged 4; A Kerley child dau.of
Lieut. Henry, name and age unknown.
