This is an update to my previous post.
My ancestor Silas F. Carley, son of Elijah Carley and Electa Lindley, was born 20 Feb 1833
in Jefferson Co., IN. Silas died 21 Sep 1872 in Cherokee Co., KS. (Not sure why he was
there since the rest of the family was in Montana). Silas married 30 Nov 1854 in Jefferson
Co., IN to Barbara Catherine Stucker, daughter of Andrew Stucker and Elizabeth Fix.
Silas and Barbara had the following children:
1. David H. Carley b. 25 Aug 1855 m. Anna C. Blume
2. Andrew M. Carley b. 22 Nov 1856 m. Mary Berta unknown
3. James C. Carley b. Mar 1859
4. Ella A. Carley b. 07 Jul 1864 (a twin) m. Leslie E. McKee
5. Emma Florence Carley b. 07 Jul 1864 (a twin) m. William Hardrick Perkins my great-great
grandparents
6. Louisa Catherine "Kate" Carley b. 30 Oct 1866 m. Frank W. Carson
7. Elizabeth Jane "Lizzie" Carley b. 20 Jul 1867 m.(1) Robert S. Steele m. (2)
Bird Andrew Bliven (also found as Andrew Bird Bliven)
8. Mina E. Carley b. 14 Jul 1869 m. Franklin Price "Frank" Tate
Silas F. Carley enlisted as a private in the Civil War on 20 Sep 1861. He was promoted to
Full Corporal. Served in the 54th Indiana Inf and Indiana Substitute B. Co. 31st Inf. Reg.
Indiana. Mustered out on 11 Nov 1865. Silas and his brother James Madison Carley (who also
served in the Civil War) moved to Kansas after the war.
Silas's wife Barbara Catherine Stucker, later married Silas's older brother
Richard Benjamin Carley 13 Mar 1878 in Wilson Co., Kansas (Richard's second marriage
as well).
