Sorry the response to this is so late in coming, my computer has been down
for a long time.
Abraham Carley married Susannah Brookins about 1740. Abraham was born in
1717 prpbably in Boston although the Carley family had roots in Marlborough,
Lancaster and
Sudbury, MA, descending from Wiliam Kerly of Ashmore, Dorset, England. He
came to America in 1638/9 with 2 sons and a daughter. Abraham and Susannah had
a son Joel who had a son Brookins (Miller) Carley who married a Lydia Ann
Ellis. He died in 1859 in Middleton, NY. There was another Brookins Carley,
born about the same time to a son or grandson of Abraham Carley's nephew Abraham
- a namesake son of Albert Carley who was a nephew of the first Abraham. This
Brookins was married to a Rachel Bennett and lived in Schoharie, NY, where he
died in 1853.
If you can do a search on Brookins through the
Ancestry.com program or google
through the name Brookins and/or Carley, you may find some clues. The
Brookins family is also aligned with the Gray family and the Sherwoods and the
Meakers/Meekers among thousands of others, and I would bet that since the names of
those allied turn up in the places you are looking, there is a connection to
this branch of the family.
Good luck in your search.
