Message Board Post:
I'm seeking information on Samuel CARLEY, his wife Sarah Anne CARLEY and their son
Robert CARLEY (b. approx 1841), all originally from England. Samuel was sent to the
colonies in 1841, served his sentence, did well with the goldrush, and returned to England
to find his girlfriend, marry her, and persuade her to return to Australia with him.
After nearly drowning when the emigrant ship Tayleur sank in 1854, the adults (no record
of their son) carried on in the Golden Era to Melbourne. I can find no record of them
after that but I understand it was common to change names en route or on arrival. Any
help gratefully received and acknowledged,
Thanks, Gill
