Hello Carley,
I know this is 13 years later, but I think that this may be the same Mary Carley as my
great grandmother. My mother told me this story before she died.
Mary Carley arrived in Halifax from Ireland. Her parents died aboard ship from cholera.
Her father's name was Samuel, and her mother's name was Ann.
Mary, two brothers Sam and Mark, probably sixteen and eighteen, and two little girls,Mary
Ann and Elizabeth survived. Sam and Mark left and went to Ontario and Mary was left with
the two little girls. A judge said she could come and work for him,and bring her two
little sisters. She worked there as a scullery maid for four years.
After four years she moved to where her brothers were. Mother thought it was Franktown,
Ontario. There she met Jim Connerty and married and had two children,Mary Ann and Eliza.
He died shortly after. She then met Robert White, but she was only married for six months
when he died of an abcessed tooth. She had one child with him, Robert Gaston White. My
great grandfather was a neighbor and had never married and younger than she when they
married. His name was Benjamin Kinnaird. They had four boys: William, who died in an
accident when he was 10, twins Frank and Benjamin( my grandfather), and John, who died of
appendicites when he was four. My grandmother (Mary's daughter in law)said she became
quiet difficult, but who could blame her, she had such a hard life. I hope I've added
some new information. Ann Carley McGill.
