You both need to talk to Billye Jackson who is also a descendant of Quartus.
Email me for her address -
I suspect that Quartus is the son of Joseph - not the one who married Sarah
Washburn but perhaps a son of a John, son of Bartholomew. This Joseph was in
the Ballston, Saratoga now Albany Co., NY area, in 1790, along with Albert and
Peter who were listed in the census index as being Kerby instead of Kerley
which later changed to Carley, and in Montgomery Co before moving to Oneida
Co. Joseph also lived in Bridgewater and was listed next to Quartus in 1820?
in the Oneida County listings. I believe I saw a cemetery listing for his
wife there a while ago.
I am interested because I am from Albert's line and I suspect that there is a
family connection between him and Joseph.
Good luck,
Judy Josephson Schreiber
Hi! I am a newcomer to the geneology scene, having inherited extensive
records of Kerley- McKerley - Carley family (including some Washburn
information) starting with William Kerley-Carley (died 1670), having
immigrated from Ashmore, County Dorset, England on the ship 'Confidence' 17.
july 1637. He resided in Higham, Sudbury, Lancaster and Marloro Mass.
My cousin Boyde Carley of Waxahachie Texas, recently died at the age of 96,
determined that we are direct descendents of ICHABOD CARLEY 1738-1818,
from Brookfield Orange County Vt..
Ichabod could have been the son of either Peter Carley (son of Bathelomew,
b. 1690 in Sudbury) - and it was Peter Carley's son who married Sarah
Washburn, uniting the families. OR Ichabod could have been the son of Job
Carley, 1708/15 - 1777 from Marlboro. Although we are 100% decsendents of
Ichabod, my cousin was unable to determine exactly who Ichabod's father was
and both of these are educated guesses.
Throughout my records about the early lines, there are several Bartholomews
but no Quartus mentioned. Several John Washburns are noted in the
"Carley-Barney-Slack Line" which was contributed to my cousin's research by
Mina Carley Foote.
Mina Carely Foote also wrote a basic Kerley-Carley piece describing heritage
of name, family coats of arms and geographical notes that I can fax to
anyone who might be interested. (2pages) (#5 request)
If anyone has an ICHABOD CARLEY b. 1738 in any records I would be very
interested to have the information. By the way, I do not have my cousin's
originals rather photostats of them. If there is interest in anything I
have, i would be more than happy to fax but please put lots of paper in your
fax machine, Boyde left no stone unturned, and he was doing research BEFORE
internet!
