There was a family story that the inventor of the Carley float was in our
family line too! However after a little research I found that the inventor
was an American called Horace Carley and I could find no connection although
that may not rule him out of your family of course.
He was born July 22, 1838 in Sherborn, Massachusetts, died Christmas Day,

Incidentally, and I mention this to protect you from injury should you ever
visit Warwickshire, only one county in England is referred to by the natives
in the style Co xxxx which is Co. Durham. :-)

Came here to South Australia in 1859 from Co Warwick England..
JOHN CARLEY aged 17 Sister MARIA aged 15
Found a CARLEY household in 1851 in Co Warwick..Think was them, with
Father JOHN and Mother MARIA...they born Ireland
On Certs Found here in South Australia lists my GGrandfather John born in
Ireland, his Sister MARIA born in Co Roscommon
Another Sister, the Eldest, BRIDGET CARLEY came here in 1856 from Co
Roscommon with 2 FALLONS on same Reg Number on Ship.
Think my JOHNS Mother was MARIA FALLON
As Found a JOHN CARLEY Marrying a MARIA FALLON in 1837 on Strokestown Co
Roscommon Parish registers
Anyone have these Connections
My Father Did mention yrs ago, Something about the CARLEY FLOAT in the
British Navy, soo whether it was in reference to a connection with the
Inventors..dont know
