We have now determined that the correct early history of this family in America is as
follows:
William Kerly, the Immigrant, b. 1602 Ashmore, Dorset, England and wife (1)Ann White, were
in MA by July 17, 1637 according to the list of planters and proprietors (land owner) in
Hingham, Mass. They came to the MA Bay Colony with three children, Mary, b. 1627; Henry,
b. 1632; and William, Jr. b. 1633. After Ann died in 1658, William remarried two more
times - (2) Bridget Bradstreet widow of Robert Muzzy and of the Rev. Thomas Rowlandson,
and (3) Rebecca Jude widow of Thomas Josselyn, and she survived William.
The William Kerley shown on the passenger list of the Confidence along with his brother
Edmund in 1638, was born in 1621 according to his own testimony as published in ....MCC
folio 44 "Ages from Court Records 1636 to 1700, Vol.I: Essex, Middlesex, and Suffolk
Counties,Massachusetts"; Melinde Lutz Sanborn,
-William Kerly....age 45 in 1666....MCC folio 40
-William Kerly.....46 in 1667....MCC folio 44
Took oath as Freeman at Marlborough - 23 May 1666
This William m. Anna King, b. 1625, October 06, 1646 at Sudbury and as far as we can tell,
his only child, a son Bartholomew was born at Sudbury abt 1650 as noted by the American
Genealogical-Biographical Index (AGBI) about Bartholomew Carley --
Name: Bartholomew Carley
Birth Date: 1650
Birthplace: Massachusetts
Volume: 25
Page Number: 70

This William (Ensign), was the son of William the Immigrant's brother, Richard, making
him a nephew, not a son of the Immigrant and wife Anna survived him.
William, the Immigrant, and son Henry moved from Sudbury to Lancaster, where the Immigrant
died in 1670 and where Henry and his family lived until the Massacre at Lancaster in Feb.
1676 in which his wife Elizabeth White Kerley and son William were slain. (See the story
of the Massacre as recorded by her sister, Mary White Rowlandson -
http://www.gutenberg.org/dirs/etext97/crmmr10.txt ). Henry was then remarried in 1677 at
Charlestown, Suffolk, MA, to Elizabeth Ward, widow of John Howe, Jr and they then took
residence in Marlborough where she died in 1710 and he in 1713.
William, Jr, son of the Immigrant, b. 1633, married Jane Unknown and they had three
daughters while living at Sudbury, Mary, Sarah and H(ann)ah, and then the family moved to
Lexington where he died in 1719 --
Found in Volume 2 of the History of Lexington by Hudson:
