Do you have an Otis Howard in this line? My Otis Howard Carley was born in 1823 in Ithaca, NY. Another researcher was fairly confident that he came from the Abraham Carley line. There is no information in print on Otis, that I know of. I have his obituary, but it does not tell his parentage.

Yes, the TN Randolf's. Andrew and Samantha were married 1870 in Freestone TX. Their issue: 1. Fleix Warren Carley, b 1871 d 1933 2. Clinton Darius Carley b 1873 d 1923 3. Barton Williams Carley (my grandfather) b 1874 d 1961 (married IraDella SQUYRES 1896) 4. Byron Andrew Carley 1876 d 1877 5. Marion Boyd Carley b 1878 d 1953 6 Serena Elizabeth Carley b 1879 d. 1937 7. Addison Boyd Carley b 1881 d 1958 (and father of my cousin who compiled the family geneology from which I am copying) 8. Mary Melissa Carley b 1883 d 1947 9. Andrew !
Randolph Carley b 1886 d 1939.
Except for Barton, all children lived and died and are buried in Tx. Barton is buried in Mountain Park OK.
I am Barton's granddaughter, yes. I was born when my father, Joseph L Carley was 50 which stretches 3 generations over 100 years and makes some things easier to follow. If anyone has any questions, I'll do my best to get through Boyd's work and find an answer. I have the direct lineage from Ichabod through to Andrew.

Super, we'll all be waiting. I'm interested in your ancestry, whether or not it matches up with mine. We're trying hard to unravel various Carley lines.

I will gladly do this but you'll have to stay tuned as I don't have time this week. It's a long story and I'm not a top geneologist, have acquired the data from an old cousin, Addison Boyde Carley II, who recently died – he researched all the way back to Ichabod CARLEY, 1738, Brookfield County VT. up to us present-dayers, all research done by car and foot, before internet, and all copied and verified! Much has appeared here already so I haven't been actively participating in site.

Would you mind posting to this list, or sending me a separate note, your Texas born ancestor's direct ancestry? I'd like to see what his upline parentage is, so far as it goes up the Carley tree.
I'm interested in a line that came into early Texas via Wisconsin, and prior to that Jefferson County, NY. Quartus Gilbert Carley, Jr, who died by November 1849, someplace and he did have children, at least two a son and daughter. I don't know who they are. He came with his sister Cynthia Carley Cleveand and her husband, Horatio Johnson Cleveland. The whole group moved from Jefferson Co. NY, to Chicago, IL area, then to WI Territory in the Racine Co. area. All moved on to Texas between 15 Jul 1840 (last child bn in WI) and 31 Dec 1840, to Texas (child m in TX)

Thanks for posting this portrait. Although we are theoretically not related to this branch of the Carley's, the signature under the portrait is exactly the same as my father's, Joseph Loren Carley, b 1902 in Texas. Uncanny!

This portrait is an uncanny resemblence to members of my branch of the Carley family - part of which was in Grant County from 1855 on - I believe him to be a cousin of my immediate branch and therefore ultimately a descendant of Mariner William and Mary Bowden Carley - William, b. @ 1680 to Capt Henry and Elizabeth Ward (widow of John Howe, Jr) Kerley, Marlborough, MA. William and Mary, m in Boston in 1703 by Cotton Mather, were the parents of John, b. 1706 m. Sarah Sherwood; and Abraham, b. 1711 m. Susanna Brookins; and possibly the William, m. Martha Patty Carter.

There is a portrait of D. W. Carley, M. D. in "History of Grant County, Wisconsin", 1881, p. 757. It is attached.
[I am not related to this family. I'm posting this as a service and hope it helps!]
