My great grandfather was William Carlton, born 21 Nov 1840 in Lewis Co., NY,
spent some time in Boston as a seaman when a young man, then ended up in
Louisiana most of his adult life. I have not been able to find his parents
or siblings or ancestors. He named his firstborn Francis Alonzo Carlton,
who was called Frank all his life. If you find any connections, it would
help with this "brick wall." I do have a photo of him as an older man.

We had a Frank Carleton born between those dates. His brothers name was
Henry F. Carleton.

Do you have a Frank Carleton in your Carleton family, guessing born
c. 1850-60. I have a photo taken in Burlington VT.prob in 1880-1899
again a guess. On back says Frank Carleton, grandpa's brother. In
what seems to be the same handwriting is a photo labeled Aunt Mary
Chadwick, great grandpa's sister.
