I have done this testing and come out 26% Irish - my maternal grandmother
was Edna Mae Carlton (Holley) born to William Carlton in New Orleans, LA. I
have been unable to find William Carlton's line (even his parents) despite
extensive searching. His records indicate he was born in Lewis Co., NY 21
November 1840, was a seaman in Boston where he enlisted in the Union Army.
His unit was taken to Louisiana to fight, where he was discharged, stayed,
married, had children (New Orleans), all information I have documented. He
went to the Union Soldiers Home in Dayton, Ohio and died there in 1909.
Other Carltons have claimed he is son of Alvah and Eluzai Carlton, but the
evidence I have contradicts this. Any information would be welcome.
