Message Board Post:
My wife's great-grandfather was born 1880 in Wisconsin, graduated
from the University of Wisconsin, became a physician and radiologist.
From the 1930 census, we learned that his father was born in England
and his mother was born in New York. He died in 1931 in Dallas,
Texas. His obituary informs us he practiced in Hot Springs, Arkansas
and later in Birmingham Alabama, where he married a Miss Florence
Elizabeth Hancock, who was his nurse. They had one child, Frederic
Carleton Johnson, Jr, my wife's grandfather.
I'm posting here on the CARLETON board because we have very few clues
about Dr. Johnson's parentage. We are guessing that perhaps his midle
given name was to honor his mother, or a maternal ancestor. So if
anyone here has a list of CARLETON marriages, my wife and I would
very much appreciate hearing from you if there is a record of a
CARLETON bride marrying a Johnson groom.
Then again, the presumed CARLETON ancestor might have been from his
father's side of the family, and thus from an even earlier generation.
Almost forgot -- Dr. Frederic Carleton Johnson's father was born in
England and his mother was born in New York, according to the 1930
census.
